Hannah Kippax

Work in progress: Flow Form Project, Ruskin Glass Centre, Stourbridge

The concept of using TV glass is to redeem some of the damage watching TV can do (particularly regarding young people with learning difficulties) by using the screens in a new, creative and positive way.  The flow and rhythm of the water is intended to cleanse the glass and environment creating a peaceful and calming experience for the viewer.

The design consists of 22 cast sections made up of three different sizes and a central column to disperse the water into three arms made of seven pieces each.

The original forms were sculpted in clay, transferred into rubber to create master models made by the artist Hans Jorg Palm, which Hannah then used to create all plaster moulds from.  She cast five forms at a time in the large kiln with each firing requiring 80 to 100 large screens. Each casting and annealing cycle took five weeks.
